What is Color Light Therapy?

Color Therapy, or Chromotherapy, is the use of color(s) to stimulate your cells and activate the chakra centers. This ancient practice has been used through various methods all over the world, dating back to Eastern holistic practices. It is said that the use of a particular color which corresponds to a matching chakra color, stimulates that chakra center promoting a sense of ease and wellness. While using color frequency to balance the area of the body that is aligned with one of the 7 chakra centers. 


Chromotherapy uses these powers of color vibration to heal, energize, and soothe us.

The Third Eye Chakra is located between the eyebrows and is represented by the color indigo. It is associated with the pituitary gland and pineal gland. It influences our sleep cycles, self-esteem, clarity, wisdom, and intuition.


The Throat Chakra is represented by blue. It is associated with communication and peaceful expression. The throat chakra is associated with the thyroid, upper back, neck, mouth and jaw, as well as with metabolism.

The Heart Chakra is represented by the color green. It is associated with the heart, lungs, and immune system. Green is the most balancing of all the colors. Color therapists usually consider green the safest color and typically start chromotherapy with it. Green is said to enhance the emotions of love, joy, and inner peace. It can bring you hope, strength, and serenity. Green is said to increase your wisdom and facilitate change and independence.



The Solar Plexus Chakra is located between the navel and the sternum. It is represented by the color yellow. This chakra is associated with positivity, empowerment and well-being as well as with parts of the body like the pancreas, liver, digestive system, and gall bladder.


Psychological Effects of the color Yellow

Yellow can be used in chromotherapy to bring energy and encourage action. This color can make you feel happier and empowered. It can bring out your intelligence and wisdom. Yellow is the most intense color in the spectrum. Too much (very) bright yellows may be associated with betrayal and deceit and so bright yellows are best used in moderation, if at all. 



The Sacral Chakra is located 2 to 3 inches below the navel. It is represented by the color orange. This chakra is said to be associated with reproduction, kidneys and adrenals, and with pleasure and creativity. 


Psychological Effects of the color Orange

Orange signifies abundance, pleasure, well-being, and sexuality. Orange may be used to stimulate different organs in the human body for physical healing. It revitalizes you and gives you increased mental energy. It can increase your feeling of connectedness between your mind and body. However, color therapists tend to avoid this color if you are prone to anxiety.



The Root Chakra, is located at the base of the spine. It is represented by the color red. This chakra has to do with our connection to the Earth and our ability to be physically grounded in reality.


Psychological Effects of the color Red

The color red is even more stimulating than orange. It influences emotional issues like financial independence and physical survival. Red orange may also produce similar effects. It's mostly used for physical healing because its emotional effects can be extreme. Color therapists avoid shining red light on your head, as this can cause agitation. Infrared can also be used by a skilled color therapist if done so with caution. Neither red nor infrared is used for someone who has severe mental conditions.
